INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION CONTROLS

Barr Systems Inc. was formed in 1983 to address control support needs. When I first got involved in industrial controls, many companies had large internal engineering staffs that addressed the needs of their company. As time has gone on, these staffs have been reduced and outside services are being contracted to fill many engineering needs. My first job out of college was with Continental Can Company's RD center on the south side of Chicago, that had 1500 scientists and engineers that developed new packaging technology, designed machines, built new plants along with supporting and improving existing ones. Continental Can also provided support, engineering and direction to other can companies around the world. Of the 1500 people on staff, around 60 people were electrical engineers that worked with cutting-edge control technology. To stay involved in new technology in varied industries, I formed Barr Systems Inc.
